Attn. Chicago LCCers
I've been invited to speak at the InHome conference in March, and Memoria Press is looking for volunteers to help staff the book table. They especially need someone to help with set up. If you can help, please drop me a note via the "Contact Us" page. Thank you!
'Thuisonderwijzers' and LCC
Paula Kuitenbrouwer, a Dutch-speaking homeschooler in Belgium, has published an article about classical education in the education journal Vakwerk. She discusses The Latin-Centered Curriculum and other English-language books, as well as some older texts. The article (in Dutch) is also posted on her web site, and a review of LCC and The Well-Trained Mind is on her blog. Dank u wel, Paula!
DIY Classical Ed.
Victor Davis Hanson doesn't mention homeschoolers in this recent City Journal article, but the classical homeschooling movement is part of the trend he discusses.
Happy St. Nicholas Day!
In honor of the feast, here is a little Latin narrative about the saint.

Veni, Veni...
The liturgical season of Advent begins today in the Western Christian tradition. (Our Eastern brothers and sisters began their fast two weeks ago.) There are many delightful Latin songs, both sacred and secular, that your students may enjoy during Advent and Christmas. Visit Laura Gibbs' "Gaudium Mundo" blog to learn a song a day for the whole month of December.
Ancient Egypt
Any idea where I can find a good resource for pronunciation of Ancient Egyptian names, places, etc.?

Memory Work Update
12/14/08: I have had many inquiries about my memory work anthology, which is mentioned several times in the 2nd edition of The Latin-Centered Curriculum. The book is now available. Thanks for your interest!
Lingua Latina vivit...in Germania!
A German television show, Kulturzeit Extra, has broadcast an entire program in Latin. You can view the whole thing, complete with German subtitles, here (click "Sendung"). Segments include a discussion of the Union for the Mediterranean, an interview with author Robert Harris (in which he discusses Barack Obama's rhetorical skills), a visit to Vatican City, and a Latin music video by German pop group "ista."
A PSA for American Literature Buyers
If you ordered a copy of the LCC American Literature collection from the Barefoot Meandering Lulu Storefront, please drop a note to kathy "at" barefootmeandering.com. She has discovered a possible production glitch and wants to make sure that your book contains everything it should.
