Summer Reading

I just picked up a copy of John Ciardi's translation of the Divine Comedy at the library for my summer reading. It's a great edition, with a short but helpful introductory essay, good footnotes, and a prose summary at the beginning of each canto.

What are you reading?

Hee hee

YOUR book ;)

Reading...

Now I'm reading Evelyn Waugh's biography of Edmund Campion, as well as The World of the Yeshiva, which just came through inter-library loan (thanks for the recommendation, Drew). I haven't made a summer reading plan yet, but I plan to keep it light, as I should spend most of my extra time studying Latin.

I'm not exactly sure right

I'm not exactly sure right now. I just got "Islam: A Short History" for myself because I was listening to it on tape and knew it to be a book worth reading over and over. I'm also thinking about "Peter pan" for myself and maybe a J.M.Barrie biography.

I think I'm on a fairy kick right now ; )

So...

Do I get thrown out of here if I say a big stack of chick-lit?? *grin*

I generally don't make any type of summer reading "plan," but I did recently treat myself to the C. S. Lewis complete signature series, and there are several in there that I've never read before. I read The Abolition of Man the other night, and I imagine I'll be working my way through the others over the coming months. Well, assuming that the new baby allows time for reading. :} After he's born, I may really be resorting to chick-lit as the only thing my sleep-deprived mind can comprehend. :D

What am I reading?

In addition to LCC (yet again) I am reading and enjoying Church History in Plain Language by Bruce Shelley.

" The pen is indeed mightier than the sword, for it it with the written word that we do most powerfully preserve that which is noble and expose that which is evil. And so in great part, the very future of society rests with those who can write, and write

Well... YOUR book again...

But I like KathyJo's suggestion of the C.S. Lewis books... (BTW KathyJo I found that if I read while the baby was nursing it SEEMED to go much faster ;))
I have plans to read SOMETHING I just cant think what...

LOL Rachel...

Every one of my boys has started life nursing with a book next to his head. :) But that C. S. Lewis book is oversized. *sigh*

I just extolled the virtues of audio books on my blog for a reason... maybe you can find an audio copy? Otherwise you might try the WEM version... read for 20 minutes a day. Maybe when you are in the bath and your baby is on a nap...
Maybe he'll be a GREAT sleeper!! (I'll definitely cross my fingers for that one LOL)

Audio books

Please, where are some good sources for audio books? I would like to purchase some good ones, but I don't know where to start. I have zero experience buying online. I'm specifically looking for anything related to the greek myths and the Iliad, but would love others.

Thanks!

Beach reads dominate...

although we're not at the beach. This week and next, I am taking a break from education reading.

I'm enjoying a Nero Wolfe mystery by Rex Stout, and just finished Thank You, Jeeves by PG Wodehouse (Wodehouse always has me laughing out loud.) Earlier in the week, I read two of E. Nesbitt's books. My daughter recently read The Phoenix and the Carpet and The Magic City. She loved them so much, I had to read them to see what the fuss was about. Can't believe I missed those when I was a kid!

I'll probably start back up with a re-read of LCC, then start DD on D'Aulaire's Greek myths. We also are reading Anne of Green Gables aloud.
