A few questions about Prima Latina

Salvete . Just thought I'd post my question here . I have a few actually .

The first one is :
1. What is the difference between Ecclesastical and Classical pronunciation ? Being new to Latin I have no idea what this means and what the differences are . Am I correct in thinking that Prima Latina uses the Ecclesastical pronunciations ? Can anyone help me understand this a bit more clearly ?

2. Am I correct in thinking that 1 lesson should take 5 days to complete ? I know the 1st lesson by 10 and 8yr old mastered completely the first day . We review the words several time a day and they know them . This 2nd lesson has been a bit more challenging so we are taking a few days here to go over it before going to lesson 3 . My 10 year old has an excellent memory so she can work through it faster then her 2nd sister who is 8 . My 5yr old is a late bloomer in the area of speech so just getting her to say the word itself is an accomplishment :>)

3. Does anyone here use the Latina Angelica along with the Prima Latina ? I had someone say that the workbook isn't introduced until LC1 . But I noticed in our PL book that there are songs from there that are recommended . Would it be doable then just to purchase the CD for right now ? Or is this something we can wait on when we get to LC 1 ?

By the way it was so cute that my 21 month old can say via :>)

Thanks for all your answers in advanced .

I do address...

all of these questions in LCC, but since we're all still waiting for the new edition... :)

1. All of Memoria Press's Latin courses use ecclesiastical pronunciation. There's a good succinct description of the various pronunciation conventions here. (Scroll down to the second comment.)

2. I always tell people to move at the child's pace with the core subjects (Latin, Greek, math). Don't be afraid to speed up or slow down as your students require. There's no point in rushing ahead if the child hasn't mastered the material. By the same token, if you start hearing, "Mom, I already know that!" it's time to move on!

3. Lingua Angelica is a translation course for more advanced students - those who have completed LC II at very least. I recommend it as a supplement to Henle. You can just listen to the CD for pleasure at this point.

It's great to hear that your kids are enjoying Latin so much! A mom whose family I tutor told me the other day that her children were joking around in Latin at the dinner table and impressed their grandmother no end. Who says Latin is a dead language? :)

Best wishes,
Drew
