Christian Studies schedule

I don't actually have the Memoria Press Christian Studies I book yet, but I do have a couple of questions about it. First of all, I understand the Golden Children's Bible is not a literal translation. Is it more like a story bible? Also, is the focus of the Christian Studies series facts and history, or is it exegesis and application? Finally, I read somewhere that each lesson is designed to be studied over the course of a week, yet the sample schedule in LCC only allots one day to Christian studies. Could the crux of the material for each chapter be studied in one sitting?

As a side note, I was reading some past posts (I think from the "Examined Life" forum) and was reminded of why I'm trying to classically educate my children. As I get caught up in the finer details of the day to day planning, it's easy for me to lose focus of my goal. I really appreciate these forums.

Hi, Abbi,

You've got questions, I've got answers! ;)

1. The Golden Children's Bible is indeed a story bible, but it borrows quite a bit of language from the KJV.
2. The MP Christian Studies program focuses on facts and history.
3. Yes, it's possible to do the reading and exercises in one day. If you wanted to split it up, that's fine, but it's not necessary. The only thing that would go over several days is the memory work, if you choose to do that. I would schedule that as part of daily recitation, but it could be done in any way that makes sense to you.

HTH!

Thanks

I know my questions seem a bit trivial, but with five boys ages 2 weeks through 8 yo, I need to know that my homeschool plan is actually going to work in real life. I learned that the hard way when I tried the neoclassical education approach and got buried. Of course, it turned out for the best because it forced me to take a closer look at why what I was reading in the Memoria Press articles wasn't lining up with what I was trying to do with my children. Your book came out just as I was in a state of homeschool crisis, and along with some other reading I was doing, really helped to point me in the right direction. I am grateful to you both for your book and the time and attention you give to this website. Thanks.
