Outlining
Ok!
My daughter started her first CC Fable exercise today. Although she is older, she has no experience in outlining. She did the outline and I think she did a good job. She was concerned, though, that hers didn't exactly match the model. It did say that it didn't have to match exactly and I told her that. I do believe she was bothered by it not matching.
To be honest, I don't think that I would have come up with the exact outline, either. How big a deal is creating the outline? I don't mean doing it...we're going to continue doing it...but I mean, if she NEVER becomes a Master Outliner does it really matter as long as she includes the info she needs?
I told her that the outline was for her, a guide. I also told her that it would not be graded, that it was a tool for her to use. Am I correct in that?
I don't recall ever being taught to outline in public school and I am ashamed to admit as an adult that I am completely ignorant in this area.
Should I buy a guide that is specifically designed to teach outlining or is it ok for her to just create her own willy-nilly? I haven't had her look at the model outline yet, as I feel that once she looks at it she will try to model after it rather than relying on herself and her own ideas.

Every one seems to be quiet at the moment, so I'll have a go at replying to one aspect of your post. My understanding of the methods of teaching classically (not just the curriculum you choose) is that it is quite ok and expected that you will look at the models - the idea being that you learn how to do it through observation and discussion of good examples. The whole "Classical Writing" Program (aka CW) is based on this idea of imitation. Another source of information on teaching methods is the Circe Institute's website. I would also suggest you contact the writers of your chosen curriculum and get their suggestions.
