Latin, Greek and Hebrew in the Primary and Grammar School years

We are a Messianic Jewish family. We believe in Jesus as Savior and Lord, but we observe a traditionally Jewish life style. We are preparing our sons, ages 7 and 4, for a traditional bar mitzvah.

We are beginning their study of Hebrew this year (1st grade and pre K). I would also like for them to study Latin and Greek, and am currently reading Drew's book.

Since we are beginning with Hebrew, I would be interested in suggestions others can offer about when to introduce Latin and Greek. Based upon what I've read so far, it seems that introducing each new language at least two years apart, and taking a very gentle approach is good advice.

Welcome!

Yes, I would say that getting a good foundation in one language is helpful before beginning another. Two years seems to work for most people. It sounds like both of your boys could start Latin with Prima Latina when the older one is in 3rd grade and go from there.

Best,
Drew

Latin, Greek and Hebrew

Thank you, Drew, for your reply, and for your informative and helpful book.

Do you think it would be realistic to begin Hebrew in 1st, Latin in 3rd and Greek in 5th, or would you recommend waiting until 6th or 7th for Greek to allow for consolidation of Hebrew and Latin?

What curriculum are you

What curriculum are you using to teach Hebrew?

On a side note, it is possible to learn 2 languages at once. I began Greek and Hebrew at the same time. But that was in college and I already had a year of college Latin under my belt. Also, I had to wrap duct tape around my head to keep it from exploding. Just kidding!
