Hello from Florida
Hello everyone!
I just read LCC and I'm excited and a little nervous about making the switch of curriculums. I have two daughters, ages 7 and 9, who are in 3rd and 4th grade. For the last two years, we have used Seton as our core curriculum and we have supplemented it with recommendations by the WTM (history, writing & literature). I speak Spanish fluently, so I have also been teaching my girls Spanish. Now that I read LCC, I want to start teaching latin. Do you think that I should try to teach both languages at the same time? For instance, would it be best for me to teach Spanish in the place of Greek, at least for the next two years? Also, I had just recently purchased the Excellence in Writing program and have been using it for about a month. How does this program compare with CW and CC? Thanks, MaryAnn

I teach both Spanish and Latin. Actually, I'm *trying* to homeschool bilingually. (Spanish was my first language and I'm fluent). I say, "trying," because Spanish often ends up on the back-burner. I haven't had a problem with the kids confusing the two. They've heard Spanish all their lives, so that's not an issue. I've been wanting them to get past the Spanglish, hence my attempt to homeschool bilingually (but only for language arts). Oh, and I plan to start Greek (gulp) next year.
I only wish I had been more consistent when they were younger (they're 10, 8, and 6 now).

Welcome!
Hi, MaryAnn,
Glad to meet you! How are you going about teaching Spanish at this stage? There are a number of people who do add in a modern language in elementary school, but do it mostly orally. Since you're fluent, you can no doubt teach a great deal of Spanish to your dc in the course of everyday life, without a formal curriculum. That would leave plenty of time for Latin and Greek.
In any case, I would take things one step at a time. Start with Latin, see how that goes, and a couple of years down the road, revisit Greek as a possibility. I definitely would not try to do it all at once!
Best of luck and please don't hesitate to post any questions that come up for you,
-Drew
