We're already finished with Classical history bks year 1 and 2
My daughter, reading books for 30mins - 1hr/wk, is finished reading the recommended books for the Classical history section for the year (Ancient Greek, Roman, Norse books). What do we read from here?
If she's willing to stick with stories, I'd dig up other versions of the myths for her. Since it sounds like she's a strong reader, you might try Crossley-Holland's Norse Myths and Bulfinch's Mythology. Or just raid your local library. You can also expand into other mythologies, particularly Egyptian and Celtic.
The goal here is to have these stories become very familiar - part of the student's mental furniture - so that when she comes across references to them in more advanced literature, she'll recognize them effortlessly. Think of it as the literary equivalent of memorizing Latin verb forms. We're looking for the mastery necessary to enjoy the Great Books (in whatever language).
