Help with pronunciation please!

I don't understand the difference between the pronunciation of the short "a" in the singular nominative case and the long "a" in the singular ablative case. Can you help me with this? TIA!

Cindy

I don't make any distinction

I don't make any distinction between these. Interested to hear what others do!

I wasn't aware

there was supposed to be a difference. I've always taken them to be pronounced the same, since they are spelled the same.
I thought the nominative and ablative were pronounced with a short a and the genitive and dative with a long a.

While we're on the subject, is dative pronounced dah-tive or date-ive?

Thanks, Drew.

Dh studied German, and he pronounces all the cases with a German accent. We've been going around and around on that one. :)

That *would* be confusing!

In German, the accent is on the last syllable - so, yes, different! :)
