Catholic history for non-Catholics?

I thought this topic was discussed somewhere, but I can't find it. Please help me out.

I am looking for a book that will provide an overview of church history from an RC perspective, with suggestions for further reading. Something that is an interesting read, not too indepth, but just a starting point. Something that is geared toward children, but still well written would probably work.

Thanks for the help!

It's not geared toward kids, but...

I'm currently reading Triumph and enjoying it immensely. Another great title is How the Catholic Church Built Western Civilization. It's not a historical survey per se, but looks at the Church's contributions in various areas - literature, science, etc. - over the centuries.

Another place you might look for children's materials is the RC History site. They're currently having a clearance sale. :)

Good luck in your search! I'm interested to hear what others recommend, too.

check out The Story of the Church

This is an older book (updated in 1946) but great for students (and interesting for adults!). Check out Cathy Duffy's review at http://www.cathyduffyreviews.com/bible/story-of-the-church.htm and order it at http://www.tanbooks.com/index.php/page/shop:flypage/product_id/3/ (the publisher's site) or check allcatholicbooks.com
